Players announced a boycott of Blizzard – the studio was accused of infringing on freedom of speech

Gamers have begun publicly abandoning Blizzard Entertainment games. According to users, the studio acted too harshly with an esportsman who spoke out about the protests in Hong Kong at the broadcast of the Hearthstone tournament.

Players began to discuss Blizzard’s solution on social networks and forums. Gamers considered that the American corporation acts to please the Chinese authorities and deliberately infringes on freedom of speech. Topics criticizing the studio began to fall into the list of the most popular, after which the company closed access to the official page on reddit and comments on its portals.

Discussions continued in sections on Blizzard games. Most of the negative posts posted on the Hearthstone page, but similar statements can be found in the threads on World of Warcraft, Overwatch and StarCraft II. Many reported that they would stop buying the company’s games and would not renew their WoW subscription:

“My subscription to WoW ends tomorrow – I wanted to renew it for another six months to play Classic and possibly return to Battle for Azeroth. The game helped me to distract from personal problems, but, to be honest, this whole situation with Hong Kong excites me so much that I’d better find myself another activity. ”
